Edith Starr Miller (1887-1933) was a New York socialite, author, and wife of Almeric Paget, 1st Baron Queenborough. Between 1922 and 1931, she conducted research on many of the most important secret societies existent in Europe, the Middle East, and North America, detailing her findings in the present work, published posthumously following her early death in France in 1933. Presenting the work as an investigative expose of those "subversive" groups that posed a threat to "Christian civilisation", the apparent pro-Fascist leanings of both herself and her husband are highly visible, including her overt antisemitism and praise for the mission of the Ku Klux Klan. Still regarded as a classic of its genre, however, 'Occult Theocrasy' provided the most comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the various occult traditions and secret societies of the period, covering everything from the Druids, to the Knight's Templar, Mormonism, freemasonry, the Illuminati, and various religious and political organisations.
