THE NORTH STAR AND THE SOUTHERN CROSS: Being the Personal Experiences, Impressions, and Observations of Margaretha Weppner in a Two Years' Journey Round the World.

First edition, first printing. Two volumes. Publisher's original blue cloth with black titles to the upper boards and spines. 8vo. Vol I: (viii), 485pp, 2pp ads; Vol II: (x), 476pp. A very good set, the bindings square and firm with a few nicks and a little fraying at the spine tips. The contents, with a small chip to the edge of the black coated endpaper of volume I and some toning to the paper stock are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. An attractive example.

A narrative of the author's travels over a two year period beginning in France sailing to America then Japan, China, Hong Kong, Saigon, Singapore, Java, India, the Holy Land, Egypt and finally returning to Germany. Provenance: from the library of Martin Stone.
