THE FLAMING DOOR: A Preliminary Study of the Mission of the Celtic Folk-Soul by means of Legends and Myths.

First edition, first printing. Publisher's original red cloth with gilt titles to the spine, without dustwrapper. With 14 illustrations and black and white photographic plates throughout. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping a the spine tips. The cloth remains fresh, the spine perhaps a touch darkened. The contents with light spotting to the prelims, and closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. An attractive example, scarce thus.

The author's best known work that made an important contribution to the renewal of Celtic mythology. The Flaming Door links Pagan and Christian stream of awareness. The book is split into two parts: before Christ, which includes studies of The Bards, The Cauldron of Ceridwen and Hu the Mighty; and after Christ, which includes the Legends of Odrum, St. Columba and the Legends of the Rose and the Lily.
