First UK edition and first hardcover edition. Publisher's original purple cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the John Woodcock designed dustwrapper. A very good copy the binding square and firm with a little rubbing and bumping at the spine tips. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that is a little creased at the edges but is otherwise without fading, loss or large tears. Not price-clipped (the printed priced of �3.15 struck through with ink on the front flap). Scarce.

Published the previous year in the USA as a paperback original, this is the first hardcover edition. A collection of 31 essays on various facets of psychedelic drugs, principally LSD, psilocybin and mescaline. The essays report of first hand experiences, anthropological studies, religious effects, neurological and psychological effects, analogous non-drug states, therapeutic uses, and the sociology of drug use, most of which are first published in this volume.
